Offsite Ads can grow sales — and quietly erase margin if you price without the fee. This page explains when the fee applies, how the rate is chosen, and how to model profit before you list.
Etsy can promote your listings on external channels (for example Google or social placements). When a buyer finds you through that offsite promotion and completes a purchase that Etsy attributes to the program, Etsy charges an Offsite Ads fee on that order — on top of the usual listing, transaction, and payment processing fees.
Exact eligibility, opt-in rules, and attribution windows can change; always confirm in your Etsy Seller Handbook / Fees policy.
In practice, sellers should treat Offsite Ads as a percentage of the order total that Etsy attributes to the ad (commonly item price + shipping and related amounts shown on the order). It stacks with:
That stack is why a “healthy” sticker price can still leave thin profit after an Offsite-attributed sale.
Suppose a U.S. seller lists at $40 + $6 shipping, no gift wrap, no sales tax for simplicity, and the sale is Offsite-attributed at the 15% rate:
Subtract your COGS and the shipping you actually pay — that is closer to take-home than looking at sticker price alone. Use the live calculator to run your own numbers in seconds.
Our free calculator on the homepage includes an Offsite Ads toggle with the 12%/15% rates and $100 cap alongside listing, transaction, and processing fees. Regulatory operating fees, VAT on Etsy services, and FX conversion are not yet in the math — they are on the roadmap.
